Biography

Daniel Lin (he/him) is a multi-disciplinary cellist, pianist, improviser, composer, actor, and memory worker. Daniel is active in jazz and Black Creative Music communities, most recently performing with Bill Cole, Taylor Ho Bynum, Ras Moshe, Warren Smith, Bill Lowe, Tomeka Reid, Alexander Hawkins, Joseph Daley, Althea SullyCole, Lisette Santiago, and Eli Hecht. His practice emphasizes collective improvisation and deep listening, drawing inspiration from the music’s histories of liberation, social justice, and radical organization and solidarities.

Having recently relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, from the Upper Valley in New Hampshire and Vermont, he also seeks to continue his theater practice. His recent involvements include acting, music directing, and accompanying productions at the Dartmouth College Theater Department, Northern Stage, and the New London Barn Playhouse, among other theaters in the Upper Valley.

Daniel recently spent two years at the Dartmouth Libraries as a Digital Library Fellow, where he developed a digital collection of Black Creative Music at Dartmouth and cultivated interests in digital cultural heritage, time-based media preservation and access, and organizational workflows.
